About Us

Our History

Good Earth was established in January 1985 by Matthew de Giorgio, whose objective was to channel his knowledge of high quality natural food products to the heart of Malta’s health conscious community.

Since those days interest in natural foods has increased considerably and Good Earth has become synonymous with high quality products free from any unnecessary additives or preservatives at value-for-money prices.

We go to great lengths to source the best possible suppliers of natural foods from around the globe, offering a wide range of products. We are committed to sourcing and providing minimally processed foods, and we wholeheartedly believe in active environmental conservation so that the planet continues to flourish for years to come.

Today, we also import and distribute product lines which cater for people following special diets, from plant-based diets to sugar or salt-controlled diets as well as those with an intolerance to wheat, gluten or lactose derivatives.

We strive hard to source the most organic products without any artificial additives, sweeteners, colouring or preservatives because we believe that food in its purest state is the best tasting and most nutritious food around. With courage, integrity and love – we embrace our responsibility to co-create a world where each of us, our communities and our planet can flourish.

The Founder – Matthew de Giorgio

Matthew’s early career as a sailor gave him the opportunity to visit a wide variety of food markets scattered around the Mediterranean islands of Greece and Sicily. The different stalls boasted a range of food products, from cold cuts to cheeses, herbs and spices. It was around this time that Matthew became captivated by the unique atmosphere that formed the ancient Mediterranean food markets, and took on a career that involved seeking out the highest quality of products.

Good Earth was formed shortly after Matthew’s return to Malta and the rest, as they say, is history.

For the first year it was a one-man job, as Matthew remembers visiting Maltese towns and villages selling two products: brown rice and vegetable burgers. In the mid-1970s there was a return to all things natural, thus, Matthew took the opportunity to introduce products that were not previously available to the Maltese community (such as Brazil nuts, soya beans and apricots). The initial challenge was to make certain products available to the public, whilst trying to get the message through that nutritious, tasty recipes were there all year round.

In 2003 Matthew’s nephew, Nikolai de Giorgio, joined Good Earth and together they took the business from strength to strength. Over the next ten years Matthew would travel annually to source produce and identify new opportunities across the European market.
